This lesson attempts to teach most of the topic in about an hour. It begins with a question about whether religion is a cause of war at all. Aspects deal with key words and scripture. The main focus is on Islam but Christianity is included when comparing religious attitudes to Holy Wars. Further focus is given to how war should be fought, how war should end and Islamic Just War theory. A homework is set with a choice of tasks and exam questions set at different levels of challenge. All of the learning is supported by a word doc template for students to make notes and use as a 'safety net'.

The lesson then proceeds to focus on the atomic bomb and the options that were available to America and the Allies in 1945. The main task is a clearly scripted plan for the students to debate the 'nuclear option'. A exam practice question is also included.

A powerpoint which quickly and simply teaches the eight conditions for Just War. This includes debate (a clip) focusing on whether Christians should be pacifists. The lesson progresses on to four case studies for the students to evaluate as 'just wars': Vietnam, The Falklands, WWII and the First Gulf War. The lesson is completed with a 12 mark questions that requires a little bit of thought and reflection. References to scripture and key words are also included.

A fully resourced, tried and tested lesson on the Hijab. The focus is the debate about banning the Hijab. At an extended level the lesson becomes an investigation into interpreting scripture. The lesson is probably best aimed at Y9 age but could be lower. Resources include a powerpoint, resources for investigating 'for' and 'against' arguments and a template to support students for the whole lesson.

A lesson aiming to teach key facts about the Qu'ran, how it was revealed and how it is important for guidance in Islam. There are plenty of clips and a diversion into issues associated with the burkha leading to a final 12 mark question clearly linked to the exam board marking guidance.
